Saying Goodbye to The Soap Box Press

Dear writers and readers in The Soap Box community,

Over the last seven years, The Soap Box Press was driven by a goal to create an accessible platform that publishes the work of emerging and established writers. With the help of our small but mighty publishing team and our dedicated authors, we have established a community for writers and artists where the creative process is supported and nurtured. With that said, we've made the difficult decision to no longer publish new titles at The Soap Box Press.

We are so proud of all the work and good we have accomplished in the micro-press space since 2016. Our small but mighty team has grown professionally and personally, and we are confident that the world of small press is being left in great hands.

We'd like to extend a special thank you to you, our creative and supportive community. We are incredibly grateful for every event you’ve attended, each book you’ve purchased, and each time we came together to celebrate our accomplishments.

Although we will no longer be publishing new books, our website and storefront will remain online to sell back listed stock. Please consider supporting your favourite writers and artists by purchasing their work before our official closing.

Stay tuned on our social media channels and this newsletter for discount alerts and an invitation to our final celebratory event in Spring 2023.

Sincerely,
The Soap Box Press

Don Agey Uses Poetry to Find Laughter and Stave Off Loneliness

They say that the best way to make God laugh is to tell them your plans. And as the world has seen repeatedly over the last eighteen months, even the most well thought out and well-intentioned plans can be upended in an instant. As was the case for the American poet, Don Agey. In 2004, Agey’s wife, Kerri, died in a car accident on her way to work. And after four years in the navy and nearly twenty years working as a security officer for NASA, Agey was forced to retire early following an injury.

'World War One was refought in an Ontario courtroom [10 years after the war'] says Author of Trial

A decade after the end of World War One, a bitter conflict unfolded in a Cobourg courtroom, dredging up memories of one of the darkest periods in Canadian history. The Currie Libel Trial, also known as the Third Battle of Mons, saw General Sir Arthur William Currie sue the Port Hope Evening Guide over a frontpage article it published which claimed Currie was responsible for thousands of casualties on the last day of the Great War. Currie sued the paper for the equivalent of $750,000 in today’s currency.

Stoicism and the Five Benefits of Journaling

Stoicism and the Five Benefits of Journaling

One of my dad’s favourite catchphrases is “document your journey.” He’s a photographer and brand consultant so I’ve always thought of it in terms of taking pictures to remember a moment or capture an emotion, but it’s also great advice for writing. Journaling is the act of regularly writing down one’s thoughts and experiences in order to reflect or gain deeper insight. Journaling is also a key tenet of the philosophy of stoicism.
