Moon Queen by Kael Klassen

moon queen.
your skin cannot shine
if you continue to wear this cloak of shame.

take it off,
the ancestors whisper,
let them see what you are made of.

but you can’t.
you won’t.

and yet,
sneaky sneaky,
your shame cloak has been getting tangled in dreams,
snagged on hawthorns,
reclaimed by mosses and mushrooms,
dashed on river rocks,
and consumed by creatures.

now here you stand.
you, pulling wisdom from star codes activated by
the reverberation of heart beats along spine.
you, the crescendo of a lineage supposedly long
forgotten and only half remembered.
you, glowing in your moon skin.
